Mother and infant orangutan photographed at Camp Leakey and this beautiful shot was taken by @kelvinmarshallphotography during a recent visit. Normally they will stay together in the wild for approximately 9 years. During this time, the mother will pass on all the skills her baby will need to survive in the wild. With the current challenges faced by the species many mothers and babies are being separated far too early and many do not survive. Some are rescued by OFI and the Carers spend much of their time try to teach the skills to infant orangutans so one day they can be released back into the wild.
