During the week of May 1, 1989, 460 individuals were killed by gunshot in the US. Felix Gonzalez-Torres's “Untitled (Death by Gun)” features images of all 460 deceased. The Cuban-American artist conceived this artwork as an endlessly replenished nine-inch stack that could be distributed indefinitely.

Gonzalez-Torres described his interactive works as “one enormous collaboration with the public...pieces just disperse themselves like a virus that goes to many different places.” Visitors are encouraged to read the sheets and take them away to keep, display, or give to others. Now on view in our #MoMACollection galleries.
