The bedrock principle of the American legal system is that we are all presumed innocent until proven guilty. Then why is it that 79% of those detained in New York are people who have not been convicted of a crime!?

Pre-trial detention means thousands of black, brown, LGBTQ, differently-abled, and poor people are treated as guilty simply because they can’t afford to be free. Poverty is NOT a crime.
