This is Vickie Dresbach. She is a wife, mother and grandmother! She is also LIVING with stage 4 lung cancer. Through @lungforce I got to not just meet her but advocate on Capitol Hill along side this wonderful voice for the cause. She is a force to be reckoned with! Her story is so similar to my grandmothers and I would like to share it with you.
Vickie was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, as a non smoker too, around the same time my grandmother passed away in 2014. Like many blindsided with this kind of diagnosis she was devastated and confused with the facts she was facing. Through a supportive husband, faith and patience she has found a targeted therapy for her tumors which has allowed them to stop growing. She finds ways to share her story, give back and is determined to survive! It’s been an honor to see her fight for those, like her, living with lung cancer.
She is proof to me of the progress we have made since my grandmother’s diagnosis. See a year before then there weren’t trials developed or options to help prolong her life. I remember feeling so upset we didn’t have this option but I now see the changes being made and it fuels my support of @lungforce even more. We need funds for newer testing and treatment methods. I know we have a long way to go but Vickie and I are here to stay. She is my ray of hope now. I fight in my grandmother’s honor but I also fight for grandmothers like Vickie. So hand in hand we fight on... so no one has to lose a loved one! #WCW #FCancer #WeAreAForce
