James Abbott McNeill Whistler’s colorful painting, “Purple and Rose: The Lange Leizen of the Six Marks,” will be featured this week in our Spotlight Gallery Conversations. “Lange Leizen,” which is the Dutch term for "Long Ladies," is the name applied to blue-and-white Chinese porcelain decorated with images of slender women. Like many of his contemporaries in Europe and the United States, Whistler had an interest in imagery derived from Chinese art and culture.
