The Marsh Pride male called Askari (meaning watchman or guard) at dawn. Seeing a male lion with his voluminous mane at dawn is one of Africa's most magnificent sights. Everyone on safari wants to see a male lion like Askari. He was about 6 to 7 years old and in superb condition. Askari and his companion Mpole were very protective over the young cubs in the Marsh Pride - their offspring - and stayed close to the lionesses much of the time during filming. ?: @thebigcatpeople @abrahamjoffe
