This is Amy, a 16-year-old buff-cheeked gibbon that lives @wrs.ig. Amy and her partner Fred form a bonded pair that will mate for life. Pairs of gibbons perform daily duets—their loud, ascending hoots provide a wild and haunting symphony that punctuates early mornings at the zoo. In Vietnam, agricultural development and logging are key threats to the gibbon, while in Laos, they are hunted mainly for food. Thankfully, @wrs.ig protects Amy and also works to take care of her cousins—the Javan gibbon—through the shade coffee and primate project in Central Java. The #SingaporeZoo helps support the livelihood of the local community members who farm in a gibbon-friendly manner by buying shade-grown coffee and making it available to Zoo guests.
