Photo by @shonephoto (Robbie Shone) // In early winter a couple of years again, I joined an Italian led expedition of explorers and scientists, and spent some time exploring moulins and caves on this glacier. In the Swiss canton of Valais, the Aletsch glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps covering a total length of about 23 km (14 mi). Sadly though, due to our warming world, this retreating glacier recedes on average 100m (330ft) each year.
