This #veteransday post is dedicated to my husband, Floyd, and also in remembrance of my dad. Both are veterans who have served this country, both are among the most humble of soldiers, never bragging or looking for accolades, but both men quietly serving and sacrificing with very little recognition or appreciation for the horrors they have endured in order to protect the rest of us from ever having to see or experience what those nightmares entail. I’m fiercely proud to be both a daughter and wife of two real life heroes. This is the first year I can’t call my dad to thank him for his service, a tradition of mine on every Veterans Day. And this is the first year I’m able to thank Floyd as my husband for all that he has done, not only for our country but as the hero in my life too. It takes quite a man to not only know how to serve a greater good, but who aims to serve in his own home, not just with practicality but also in the hearts entrusted to him. He covers my gentle sensitive nature and preserves it with all that he is. He constantly aims to learn the layers of my heart and then rises up to ensure I feel safe in every jot and tittle within it. He has grit and endurance and integrity, and to me he is the greatest man and hero of them all. I love you, Floyd. Happy Veterans Day.
