Give with soul, give to the future. We founded our organization Shikshya Foundation Nepal (@sfnepal), nearly 8 years ago, with the goal of providing education to under resourced communities, aiming to create a critical mass of leaders who will be instrumental in turning our society into a just, equitable, secular, accountable, thinking, questioning, progressive society. In our 8 years, we are proud to have been able to provide complete education to more than 300 children and to have impacted more than 15,000 lives through our incredible, vigorous initiatives and partner organizations. Since our founding, our mission had expanded to provide educational support to women prisoners who are languishing in prisons, whose crimes are often due to their lack of awareness of their rights and their inability to mobilise resources to advocate for themselves. We believe empowering them through education fosters stronger citizens who are able to reintegrated back into the community in a positive and impactful manner. In addition to creating scholarships to nurture the in classroom growth of our students, we also provide ongoing support to organize Photo Kathmandu, an outdoor exhibition that creates conversation between the city and its people, raising ideas and questions about the state of our society and ones role in it. Our students are active participants in the exhibition, which also casts a global lens highlighting Kathmandu as a progressive epicenter with great potential to shape our world’s future. Furthermore, after working in several other districts, SFN, with a vision to include creative arts in every classroom of the municipality, with our implementing partner Srijanalaya, just signed an agreement with the Village Municipality Thanpgaldhap to continue its arts in education initiative for the next three years.
