Without a doubt the most important artist in my life, my first record would simply not exist without you. Pete Shelley. You were my gateway to authentic punk, to pop and to truth in my songwriting. Thank you for giving me permission to make art from my mundane. Thanks for making my unerotic, monotonous life in a fast food restaurant, rejected from all universities, bored and horizenless enough to draw from. I learnt SO much when I discovered your music. That there is a story to be told in bleak skies, in the disappointments and in the mind numbingly boring. Your lyrics gave me the confidence and permission to tap into my actual life rather than attempting to portray a poetic version of it. Your access and dedication to the truth will be greatly missed in the age of curated content. RIP Pete ?
