Photo by @argonautphoto (Aaron Huey). Clouds forming around Denali’s peak (20,237ft) at sunset. The mountain’s base to summit height is about 18,000 ft making its vertical rise far greater than Mt. Everest which rises only 12,000 ft from its base (to a total height of aprox 20,029ft)! When I was working in Denali National Park I couldn't always see the Mountain because it is usually shrouded in clouds, but its presence was always felt. Denali is, after all, translated to "The Great One" or "The High One." And like most big peaks in the world it seems bigger than life, a kind of transcendent thing, beyond time.
