Photo by @williamodaniels // Coal mine in Min-Kush. During the 1960s and 70s, Min-Kush was a prosperous city living off the wealth of uranium mining. It is now an impoverished and semi-deserted village of 2,500 people (down from a population of 20,000) polluted by uranium waste. This picture is part of “Faded Tulips”, a project that looks at the remains of the Tulip Revolution in Kyrgyzstan 5 years after it started. It is a trip through a young country at the crossroads of different worlds, born out of the break-up of the Soviet Union 20 years ago. The project was published as a book in 2013.
