Matsubara-an Keyaki is an elegant (formal) restaurant in Shibuya where they specialize in soba and craft the noodles by hand. Soba is the Japanese name for buckwheat. The noodles are made from buckwheat flour and are thin as opposed to thick Udon noodles that are made from wheat. In Japan, Soba is traditionally served on New Year’s Eve.
During our last trip to Tokyo, we went for a late lunch and ordered one of the set options. The soba, the Kamakura duck, and the tempura (not pictured) were all amazing and the meal concluded with a palette cleansing fruit jelly dessert.
