While I knew that it was going to be the first event of our Amazing: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Who Inspire Us All book tour, I realized when we arrived at @bnalamoana that it was ALSO our first public book event ever! *Our #KudoKids books came out during the height of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 when in-person events were not possible. The event started at 2pm and we didn’t end up leaving the store until after 7pm. To all of our friends and supporters, THANK YOU for taking the time to come out and see us. Standing in line were individuals, families, groups of friends, teachers (so many!), skaters (shoutout to the wonderful community at @icepalacehawaii), and fans who have been cheering us on since 2009! Many of you waited in line for over 3 hours!! We are so humbled and honored that the Honolulu community came out to support us and this book—special shoutout to @usjapancouncil, @jcchawaii, and @pigandthelady for spreading the word about our visit to the island. Thank you for ALL of the beautiful leis, snacks, food recs, cards, and gifts. We enjoyed meeting and talking to each and every one of you. I especially appreciated the kind words about our books, skating, and thoughtful check-ins on my health. 🧡 Alex and I are really passionate and intentional about everything we do and believe in the power and possibilities of this new book, AMAZING. Our hope is that it can be a game changer for AAPI representation in kid’s literature, as well as advance the ongoing effort for AAPI history inclusion in K-12 curriculum across the United States. To Haunani, Ross, and rest of the wonderful B&N staff, thank you for hosting us.
