The success of the ‘cinématographe’ was almost immediate, with audiences flocking to see the series of short films. Amidst the excitement, French artist Henri Brispot designed this poster, showing audiences jostling to enter a ‘cinema’. One of our #Bestof2018, the ‘world’s first film poster’ sold for £160,000 in an online sale of #OriginalFilmPosters on 4 September.
