Spikey leaf and dew drops. Shot on a quiet and dewey morning in Maine earlier this year. Mornings like that are my favorite, when it seems like there are treasures everywhere I look and I can’t wait to find the next little scene that nature has to offer. I talk out loud a lot on days like those, mostly telling myself to slow down because I get so excited. It reminds me of the excitement I have sometimes felt in a new climbing area, when everything feels fresh and opportunity abounds. As climbing became a job of sorts, that joy was harder and harder to find. I fear the same could eventually happen with photography, though right now it seems unlikely since everything is still so new and novel and exciting. So, note to self — be sure to always allow days to run around blabbering out loud, overwhelmed by the magic of the natural world and all the cool stuff there is to be seen. •
