“I hope you are not driven mad by the sounds yet.” –#BruceNauman to Konrad Fischer after “Six Sound Problems for Konrad Fischer” (1968) went on view at Fischer’s gallery. This noisy installation was produced entirely on-site, and ushered in Nauman’s commitment to sound as a medium for visual art.
...
Every day a different sound is played—pacing back and forth, a ball bouncing, a violin played off-key—and the chair moved to a different spot, shifting the angle and length of unspooled tape connecting the player and chair. On Sundays, when the original gallery was closed, the work remains silent. Now on view at MoMA.
