Meet @elena_glco my very first hire at #glco in March of 2010. I posted the sales associate job at my Venice store on Craigslist and after a week of terrible interviews, she finally walked through the door and the chemistry was instantaneous. I practically gave her the job on the spot. It almost didn’t happen because she was in her final semester at fashion design school and asked if she could move the interview time because she had class, which I replied that I wanted someone serious and available. I don’t recall if we moved the time or if she missed class but nonetheless it worked out. Within the first year she quickly became my top salesperson at the store. And towards the end of 2010 it was clear I needed help on the launch of the brand as I was making trips all over the world for production and then for sales and I needed someone to help me on the wholesale side of the business. In January 2011 we literally hit the ground running by train, plane, and automobile. We each had a sales kit and we would fly to Europe together, and say good bye for a month as she’d go open accounts in Germany, Switzerland, Italy while I would handle France, England & Benelux. In that first year we opened 150 accounts together, even when the partner didn’t speak a word of English. Then we came home, packed the orders, shipped the orders, collected the money, took the reorders, designed and developed the new collection and marketed the brand. It was honestly the best time of my life. Fast forward 9 years later...Elena heads up the Design department for two brands with and leads a team of 6 people. We are a family business and she is my sister. She’s a great leader and fantastic eyewear designer. She is truly one of the best eyewear designers in the industry. She studies her history, she knows her trends, she’s collaborative and she works so hard. I’m so happy to have her by my side. ? to many many more years.
