#NewOnView: Many American makers appropriated Japanese design in the later 1800s as trade with Asia increased. This silver tea set was shipped to Japan to be decorated by Japanese artists, who applied richly colored enamel ornamentation. The set was then returned to the US for sale. See it now in Gallery 104.
