Today marks the 100th birthday of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play major league baseball in the modern era.
Before Robinson broke the color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, the exclusion of African Americans from major league baseball reflected racial segregation across the U.S.
Robinson made a difference on and off the field. He held jazz concerts to raise money to support the Civil Rights movement. After baseball, he served as the chairman of the NAACP Fight for Freedom Fund.
This baseball card is in our @国立アメリカ歴史博物館's collection.
