Heads up, Illinois: More jobs are coming your way.

Ford just announced that it is expanding its workforce and is investing $1 billion in plants around the Chicago-area. The company is adding 500 jobs in an effort to increase production of the redesigned Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator.

The move comes as the automaker shifts its focus to making more crossover-utility vehicles and trucks, as American consumers stray away from sedans and sports cars.

But even though Ford is now adding hundreds of jobs in the U.S., the company is laying off thousands of workers in Europe as the automaker undergoes an $11 billion restructuring.
