In @tmagazine | Every room in this #Manhattan apartment is a testament to #Japanese tradition. In one of the 2 master bathrooms, photographed here by @AnthonyCotsifas and styled by @michaelreynoldsnyc, the walls are made entirely of Towada stone, the cypress #bathtub sits atop old stones salvaged from a defunct tram station in Kyoto, Japan, and the ceiling is cedar. But the original idea for this residence wasn’t very ambitious. The couple who was decorating the apartment wanted a tearoom that would serve as a work of art, so they asked the artist #HiroshiSugimoto to design it. But when the couple’s original architect dropped out, leaving the 7,700-square-foot upper-floor apartment untouched, they wondered: Would Hiroshi be interested in designing the entire residence? He agreed, and after 4 years and multiple trips to Japan, the apartment was complete. Visit the link in our profile to see more photos from inside the residence and read more about the apartment’s design.
