A year ago today, public school teachers in West Virginia went on strike to protest the fact that they had some of the lowest salaries for educators in the country. After two weeks, they won a 5% raise—and set off a movement. Teachers picketed in Arizona, Colorado, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Oklahoma last year, often winning pay increases and other improvements in working conditions. The teachers' strikes of 2018 are some of the most important labor victories in more than a century, and we should note it's a movement that's majority women. Brava.⁣
