Mary Lee Bendolph is a master quiltmaker from Gee’s Bend, a small, remote, black community located along a curve in the Alabama River. Quilts have been an important part of life throughout their history and carry forward a proud tradition of artistry made for home and family. This June, Mary Lee Bendolph’s works will be presented alongside other quiltmakers and artists spanning several generations from Gee’s Bend and Rehoboth, Alabama, in “Souls Grown Deep: Artists of the African American South.” #BlackHistoryMonth
