Girl Talk was released 6 years ago today!!!!!!!!! What are you favourite memories of 2013 Girl Talk tour days? Mine are firing my manager a wk before the record came out, ?‍♀️ crowd surfing as mrs claus into literally no one and smashing hard onto a wooden floor. Kinda sums it all up ???? @boomvision says when she fell off stage during the foundations solo in Newcastle, we all just watched unable to help. @hnashette sick on tour and puking next to Linda in bed in a super 8 motel somewhere near Philadelphia. Also me and @hnashette fighting so loud on a ferry that they threatened to kick us off to which we responded ‘leave us alone we’re sisters!!’ Pretty sure we were fighting about a cardigan. Cleaning shit off of Linda’s shoe in Argentina, fighting w the biggest men I’ve ever seen in Chicago and crying cause Linda made me be the bigger person and leave. Then we went back anyway and @hughsiemakesnoise asked them if they would talk like that to their mother and we all made up. @paulatrounce pole dancing in Leeds. Losing my tooth in leeds after stealing a giant bear from the Travelodge we were in (i gave it back once I lost my tooth...only because i was forced to) Emma having meltdowns which worked for everyone else because when she melts down she cleans. @paulatrounce losing her shoes in the Smashing Pumpkins mosh pit. It’s a miracle she has feet left. I dunno if all of these seem like in jokes but I don’t care Girl Talk was like a secret club and everyone who was there gets it. It was like being on a steam train that had lost it’s brakes. Thank you to all my loyal girl gang members who showed up and made friends with each other and made it the most memorable lesson in independence I ever learned. Love you so much! ? @rubyjune

clairemarielt I was in college and had class the night you came to Boston, in the middle of the 4 hour class we took a break and the teacher casually told me because I had been 15 minutes late I would be counted as absent for the night, so I walked out of the classroom and got in a cab and went straight to the show by myself. It was amazing and I cried and felt empowered and cried some more. It was about 4 months after I'd lost my best friend to cystic fibrosis and things were dark. The songs "Sister" and "Fri-end?" meant so so much to me because my "best friend" at college just ghosted me, explaining to others that she didn't know how to handle me grieving and I felt completely alone and I'd get angry and sing along instead of feeling sorry for myself. And then I dyed two platinum blonde streaks in my black hair. So thank you for giving me a really good soundtrack (and great hair inspiration) for that time in my life. 💜

sergiovalerio97 I remember when girl talk came out lol i loved it instantly!!! Then i told my dad i wanted to play guitar, honestly just to learn youre so cool im so freaky,(i was very inspired by every aspect of that song prob xd) i went to guitar classes, didnt finish the thing xd,i even created my own guitar pick and wrote your name on it haha😂😂, at the end i learnt it anyway on my own!!🔥, also foundations, so🔥🔥 xD today, everytime i pick a guitar i think of your music hehe specially since those are the two tracks that i can play perfectly without forgetting the cords haha🔥x3 , i still play new things everytime i can!, so yeah girl talk was soo worth it!!, i hope one that i can see you live!!! ❤️❤️

omg_jess That album was (is!) so good! I was in the video for Death Proof (a few times I was used as your body double!), which was huge for me for several reasons: I’d been listening to you for years and years at that point & was obsessed so I couldn’t wait to hear new music, but also because I’d been auditioning for tons of stuff and never got cast. The video was an open call, but I was featured a few times and that’s all that mattered! Plus I made friends with people that I still talk to :) Last year I took my mom to see you at the Fonda and she had a great time! This post is so nice and made me so happy. It’s fun to read everyone’s stories 💕

cdtbone11 I remember listening to it first my sophomore year of college when I just so happened to be in the darkest time of my life. My "friends" judged me for it so I stopped listening. Once I realized they were shit people and dumped them, I started listening to Girl Talk again with new ears and truly fell in love with the album. I felt so bad for not understanding it the first time, I almost wrote you an apology/ thank you letter. I have so much respect for you. Thank you for being a role model for me to be honest/true to myself. It just took me some time and more life experiences to get there. Hopefully I'll see you live one day.

mikasmay I can’t believe that was 6 years ago, I remember hanging up posters of your tour date in Austin, TX. I also happened to run into an old, close, friend from high school at your show. Afterwords, we went dancing and then kissed at some point haha. We used to have crushes on each other in high school, but nothing came out of it. The crush didn’t really develop into adulthood, but the kiss was fun and it was one of the first times where I was able to go out, have fun, and not think about my abusive ex.

blaminglove My favorite part was when you opened your Cleveland set with Sister, (my favorite song on the album bc it reminds me of a lost friend and gives me all of the feels...) and I immediately started crying and singing and dancing. It was wonderful! The entire show was so empowering! Also, friends and I had just convinced our friend @anthonysheedy to let us up his style a little, and after the show you said to him, “hey, I love your shirt!” And now he’ll never change his style bc of you. 😂🤣🤦🏻‍♀️
