I slept through my exercise time this morning. Pulled another all-nighter closing some work/life gaps, feeling stretched thin!
Today needed some elasticity, so we skipped gymnastics and played in the sun (praise be! ☀️) for awhile.
Can we talk about balance? What works for you?

I try to think of it in terms of energy distribution and I give myself a lot of leeway. I think your caption explains exactly how you balanced out an intense night of work with some ease and grace the next day. When those nights are very few and far between, it’s easier to balance them with a rest day. If they become more frequent, then I like to look at whether or not something else has to give. At first it may seem like you can’t give anything up but it’s often just a time versus money issue. Is there a task that doesn’t actually require your personal energy that you could pay someone to do? Are you doing something that isn’t your unique brilliance and removing it would give you time and energy back? And maybe give someone else some much-needed work? Hurray for sunshine, glad you got to take advantage of it.

I didn’t balance for about 7 years and it (and many other issues) causes my body to turn on a gene and I now have an autoimmune disease and I no longer have a choice to NOT balance. I have to prioritize and say no to things that do not matter (that I thought did previously.) I am a wife, a Mom of two and a teacher. All of those people deserve me, but I have learned that if I don’t rest well, eat appropriately, balance work, play and rest, that I will be bed ridden. It puts things in perspective and has taken away a lot of anxiety over those things that I once thought were important. If anyone can learn from mistakes, please do! You never know what is lying dormant in your body that unhealthy choices may kick off. I learned the hard way.

As a tech teacher at two schools I am stretched thin all the time. One silly thing i do to help with stress is to leave myself presents and notes. Like before school vaca - I leave myself a note for Monday morning back - with a very clear schedule for that morning. I left myself a new scented soap in the shower. I bought a CD at a world music concert and didn’t unwrap until vacation was over. I got a new salad dressing to have with dinner. Then I had these silly little things to look forward to it to surprise me (because I usually forget them!)

I thought I had balance. I work from home, daycare is IN the neighborhood, etc. Then I got laid off and felt a load of stress release in a single exhale. I had no idea I was carrying around so much. I knew I was jumping from one bucket to the next with little to no breaks (mom bucket, work bucket, house upkeep bucket). I just didn’t realize the buckets were so full. An all-nighter though! That is truly rough.

@lola_lazenby_and_moo - thanks for the great tip: excellent article, and one that speaks to me, since I recently had to see several drs & go on meds, due to reducing my sleep to 2 or 3 hrs a night. All to accomplish my work, volunteer projects & home obligations. Headed towards a stroke.😢 The word "no" is a powerful ally & selfcare is 💯.

Giving myself permission to make a new, less demanding schedule when life is swirling too fast. Making time to breathe and play because most things can wait. This helps me to get back to the regular (more demanding?) schedule feeling energized and ready for its challenges sooner. Take care of you and take the morning/day off.
