Every great partnership has to begin somewhere. For Karen O, best known as the frontwoman for the punk trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the producer Danger Mouse, it was a drunk dial in 2008. That led to “Lux Prima,” their collaborative album which released on Friday. @Karen O and @dangermousejukebox both recently entered their 40s. It’s something that was on their minds as they began the project. “I’m on a vision quest of sorts,” said Karen O. That inspired a sprawling, soulful, cinematic psych rock album filled with astral bass lines and gauzy strings. “My whole thing was making sure that one of the coolest chicks in the world likes what we’re doing,” said Danger Mouse, born Brian Burton. @nataliamantini shot this photo of Karen O — short for her last name, Orzolek — and Danger Mouse.
