We invited visitors to Milan Design Week to drench their senses at an immersive exhibition by acoustic artist Kouichi Okamoto. Inspired by the elements, 50 Words for Rain is an installation made up of Japanese Kanji representing the 50 words within the language to describe precipitation.
Okamoto’s vision for the exhibition is to awaken visitors to the wonder of rain in a way that feels accidental and surprising. “For me rain is a creative wellspring,” he explains. At the opening night event, guests were encouraged to splash water to reveal the intricate lettering, and take in an accompanying sound composition with a climatic acoustic performance by Okamoto.
