The sneaker market continues to grow: It was reported that the global market for "sports footwear" in 2020 will reach $158 billion dollars. That's a lot of sneakers–and plastic.
Did you know that a typical sneaker is made up of 15 to 20 different components, many of them plastic? And once you're done wearing them, plastic doesn't biodegrade in a landfill. If you want to recycle them, you probably couldn't because each of those 20 plastic components need to be broken apart and individually recycled. @Everlane's Michael Preysman understood that problem, so for the past two years, he and his team have been working on Tread by Everlane, "the world's lowest-impact sneakers," debuting today and launching online next week.
