This turtle was the last female of its kind, and now only three of the species are left. Chinese state media said the Yangtze giant softshell turtle is now potentially extinct after the female, estimated to be more than 90 years old, died at a zoo. The Wildlife Conservations Society calls the giant turtle the world's most critically endangered turtle species, killed off due to hunting and habitat destruction.
