“We have a warehouse here where more than 10,000 of his pieces are archived, along with works by other artists. The Sol LeWitt Collection. It is a specific collection, no masterworks, but we are organizing everything, and I think we will make donations to Yale or Harvard. We would like to have a young artist in residence who takes inspiration from his work. We do not feel that every pencil that he touched needs to remain in the same spot,” concludes Carol. Even he used to say, “In terms of ideas, the artist is free even to surprise himself.” Ideas are important, especially if they surprise those that come up with them. There’s the freedom as well to return to where it all began.
