The UN General Assembly recently adopted the UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, and decided to name it after Singapore! We look forward to hosting the signing ceremony for the “Singapore Convention on Mediation” later this year.

As a small, open and vulnerable country, we are a strong proponent of the rule of law. We have built upon the English common law system we inherited, and developed an autochthonous (i.e. native, formed or originating in the place where found) legal system and judiciary respected at home and abroad.

Glad to speak to an international gathering of lawyers at the 29th Inter-Pacific Bar Association Annual Meeting and Conference this morning. Such healthy debate will ultimately further the cause of justice in our respective countries. – LHL
