Barbara Hepworth lived and worked in Trewyn studios – now the #BarbaraHepworth Museum – from 1949 until her death in 1975. The Museum and Sculpture Garden was opened in 1976 in accordance with the artist's wishes. 🍃 Sculptures in bronze, stone and wood pepper the museum and garden, largely in the positions in which the artist herself placed them.
Finding Trewyn Studio was 'a sort of magic’, she wrote. ‘Here was a studio, a yard and garden where I could work in open air and space.' The Museum and Gardens continues to be a place of sanctity and solitude to artists and visitors, offering a remarkable insight into the life and work of one of Britain’s most important twentieth century artists. Visit the Studios from Monday to Sunday, 10.00am–5.30pm in St Ives. #InternationalSculptureDay
