In an effort to curb CO2 emissions from diesel-powered trucks, Germany on Tuesday opened a roughly six-mile stretch of highway with overhead electric lines for big rigs. The system, which was developed by Siemens, allows trucks with special equipment to draw electric power from overhead cables. The trucks run on electric motors when connected to the overhead lines, and a hybrid system when they return to a traditional road. For more, go follow @cnnclimate.
