This does not meke me laugh... At first I don't know why such statement appeared. Secondly, I recollect Olympic Games and try to imagine sportsmen. I think that Olympic Games are a very bright event for sportsmen from exotic countries, and they probably think that it is a big honour to represent the country. At least, Euronews showed preparation of the African for the ski competition... I think the same about fogurr skating. This is the case where it is appropriate to recollect the famous proverb. The main here to make Plpic games be a competition of the best participants. Then it will be a strong stimulus for those who are weeker.

And a corollary: Australian television coverage of the Olympics should revert back to including the ENTIRE FIELD of competitors, as opposed to the top 5 plus the Australian. You get no sense of the breadth of the competition, nor of the skill range. Their ADHD-style jumping around the events without covering any single one in its entirety is highly irritating, not to mention disrespectful to the athletes.

@milochao no, to have reference of the amount of talent and work needed to get to that point. People think things like ice skating isn’t a sport and have no idea the athleticism, hard work and talent required. I think that’s her point. I’m sure she’s heard many times, ice skating isn’t a sport. My daughters didn’t compete at her level and we heard it more times than I would care to count.

@tina_harris I realized this after I posted. My daughter is eight and a competitive skater. For me, it goes without saying that skating is a sport. It is an absurd thought to think that it is otherwise.

I’ve frequently commented that a last place finisher at the Olympics in any given sport is still infinitely better than the average/recreational athlete😊
