Happy birthday to #MaryCassatt who was born #onthisday in 1844. Though her family objected to her becoming a professional artist, Cassatt began studying painting at @pafacademy at the early age of 15. In 1879 she exhibitioned in Paris with the #Impressionists, becoming their second female member. As a “New Woman” (a feminist ideal of the 19th century) Cassatt created images of the social and private lives of women, often emphasizing the intimate bonds between mothers and children.
