Photo by @bertiegregory | A female black bear and her two cubs watch nervously as a large male bear approaches on Vancouver Island, Canada. Male black bears are known to kill cubs. Brutal as it may be, the males do this to increase their reproductive success. By killing another male’s cubs, the female will then come back into heat. The male can then mate with her to father his own cubs. Fortunately on this occasion, the female spotted the approaching male and quickly took her cubs into the forest and up the safety of a large cedar tree. In order to protect places and animals like this, we need to conserve 30% of the planet by 2030. #CampaignforNature #britishcolumbia #photography #wildlife #coast #bear
