“When you make photograms, without the use of a camera, you can indeed call that abstract photography...No longer do you have pictures of reality or objects; you only have their shadows.” –#ThomasRuff

Virtual things create virtual traces in this spectral image. Ruff has constructed a simulation of a traditional photogram, in which objects are placed directly onto a light-sensitive surface and leave a silhouette at one-to-one scale. But digitally recreating this analog photographic process was not easy, requiring so much calculating power that the artist had to use a supercomputer. The extreme size and sharpness of the resulting picture seem supernatural. #ArtTechMoMA
