Drone video shows the French coast where, 75 years ago, tens of thousands of Allied troops landed in Normandy to confront Nazi forces in the largest amphibious assault ever launched. The invasion on June 6, 1944, known as D-Day, laid the foundations for the Allied defeat of Germany in World War II. On this day alone, 4,414 Allied troops were confirmed dead, with more than 9,000 wounded or missing. The precise number of German deaths isn't known, but they are estimated to be between 4,000 and 9,000.
