I truly believe that integration and “welcome” are what is most needed in the world right now, as the number of people displaced is larger today than any other time since WWII.
And we saw this first-hand with friends Emanuela and Federica.
Both young girls live in a home for unaccompanied boys and girls, ages 16-21, for Italians and refugees.
Emanuela is an 18-year old refugee from Nigeria who has been through more than any of us can imagine.
Now safe in Italy, she goes to confectionary school. She told us it’s always been her dream to be a cake designer and confectioner and it’s also what “they told me that’s what my mom was and I guess I took that from her.” Federica and Emanuela held each other’s hand the entire conversation. I believe they’ll be friends for life.
