This week’s text is from Eva Milstein-Touesnard, a student at Cornell University. Read, enjoy, get involved! “About 50% of the world’s human population lives in urban areas. That percentage increases every day. It is projected that in the years to come, most population growth will occur in cities. I have never been a city person but I know that nature isn’t the only thing that climate change will ruin. Climate change will also destroy humanity and all that we have created, including cities. Rising global temperatures are causing the oceans to warm. As ocean water gets warmer, it expands causing sea level rise. Most cities in coastal areas will experience a constant risk of flooding if they aren’t already. This will cost our world so many lives and so much money. With carbon pricing, the cost of our energy and goods will accurately represent damages carbon is causing. A price on carbon will not only allow clean energy to grow and thrive, but also generate revenue that can be used to strengthen and prepare our vulnerable communities against future climate threats. You don’t have to love nature to want to stop environmental degradation. Climate change affects everyone, so everyone should be concerned about it and take action!” 📷 from my travels last year.
