“I have always loved birds, perhaps it is their self-reliance.There is a notion of freedom that is associated with flight, one that feels at once familiar and unachievable.

To me, they also evoke serene solitude, as if looking down at the theatre of human things from their unique vantage point. The metaphysical qualities of flight are perhaps one reason birds have been referenced in literature from its origins to present day, in myriad forms and symbols.

These small predators I photographed in Kyoto have extraordinarily developed capacities and sight. A seeming ability to be everywhere, to see everything, with honed eyes. I was, and continue to be, captivated by them.” - @paolopellegrin
