I think Toru's visit to The Peak was the most impressive spree of Gritstone climbing ever. He came over from Japan in his school summer holidays, at just 15 years old. He came alone, knowing nobody and not speaking much English. I remember meeting him for the first time and we mainly did charades to communicate, however communication was easy, because his only goal was to climb on The Grit. An 18 year old me and @alex_ekins climbed with him, belayed, spotted, took video and photos, as he delicately floated over the gritstone with ease. . I think what made his trip so impressive was his age, independence, standard of climbing, time of the year and of course his ability and determination. . He showed respect to the Gritstone working up to the routes he did, and the gritstone repaid him back. He managed multiple repeats of testpieces. Second ascents. A Double E9 day. And the most impressive climb, the first ascent of the route pictured here, Black Out, which is still unrepeated. . I remember we were the only ones at Burbage South that day and it was pretty special to witness this one. . I'll try and dig out the video of this one!」6月26日 20時05分 - saruzaemon9
