I never thought the Andre sticker would amount to more than a short-lived joke. Obviously, my roommate, who left me a note on the back of the original sticker Xerox did not see it as particularly sacred. His message about swiping enchiladas from work appropriately reflects the "get by, by any means necessary" mentality that I had as an artist. I sold homemade bootleg band shirts and rigged Xerox machines to give free copies to keep my creative endeavors alive. - Shepard⠀

@obeygiant I lived in San Diego (Mission Hills, and PB), from 92-98. I remember seeing your stickers EVERYWHERE. My friends and I were like “these are rad, is it some kind of a cult, a band... who cares, we just love them!!!”

I remember seeing Andre art up for first time in CopyCat building Underground Art show, just guessing in and around 1989/90... interesting to see the life that images live after they enter the world.

I saw the stickers in DC when I was running around clubbing with my fake ID. Didn’t know what they meant but always felt like I was part of something for noticing. And I was right. ;-)

@obeygiant Amazing principal! It brings art to your normal routine and makes you think different. It actually brings people together. I’m still asking what is art!

he's a legend and legends never die... or, as Scott Hall (aka. Razor Ramone) puts it "hard work pays off. dreams come true. bad times don't last but bad guys do."
