Animals. My goodness. The natural instinct for compassion amongst these adopted brothers. Frank has been very ill and in and out of hospital this week. Frank has been living on borrowed time since I found him at 400 grams, severely malnourished, unable to walk, half blind and asthmatic in Toronto. I brought him home to die and 15 years later he beats the odds every day. We have an inhaler for Frank, special food, medication, great vets but I truly think it is this gentle love and empathy from Alfie (who is a 2 year old rescue from south central LA) and the nighttime cuddles from Jake (who is a 20 year old tuxedo cat from Alberta) that keeps Franks heart beating. hillycessy I’m not crying, I’m fine, there’s just a twig in my eye. 😭 My sister’s oldest cat Wanda was found living outdoors with a litter of her own kittens and a litter of kittens they determined were not hers based on their age. The vet’s theory is that the mom of the other kittens either abandoned them for some reason, or something happened to her. Regardless, Wanda cat happened upon them in her travels, and wouldn’t leave them behind. She must’ve brought them back to where she kept her own babies, one by one, and decided to care for them as if they were her own. To this very day, at 15 years young, Wanda is an incredible kitty. I don’t think she’s ever bitten or scratched anything in anger in her life. She purrs non-stop, and if you pet her, she’ll lick whatever’s closest to her (your hand, the couch, a blanket, etc.) to show you her appreciation. Cats are truly the best creatures in the entire world, and we can learn so much from them. ❤️ I hope your little baby feels better soon!

bradjhandy I grew up with cats and a dog. One cat got hit by a car and lost her back leg. Couldn’t scratch her neck because of it. Mom grouped my dog with her one day. He instinctively started licking her neck, scratching her itch (for many years after). She gave him chest massages in return
