Tulsi Gabbard seems to be the only candidate who has emphasized an anti-war agenda in foreign policy, in addition to ending the idiotic “war on drugs”. She herself served in the military and has seen the dead bodies and knows firsthand how horrific corrupt “regime changes” are. I respect her for being adamant about resolving our tensions with Iran peacefully and calling out the Iraq war/Venezuela sanctions/Vietnam war/Libya ‘regime change’ as failures, despite the warmongering and oil greed of both parties. Andrew Yang is another candidate I admire, who advocates for Universal Basic Income, (giving every citizen 1,000$ or so a month) which, when I researched it, is a perplexing amalgamation of both socialist and libertarian ideas- involving welfare reform or taxing big tech companies more who are automating away all the low wage jobs. I’d be curious to see a trial run of it. What do you think about the controversial concept of UBI and which candidate do you like, and why?

@charlottekempmuhl I’m for Bernie. He’s been the most consistent in terms of voting and has fought for the people since his Mayoral days. One of my biggest gripes, though, is he doesn’t seem to do well in terms of outlining his details. They exist. I know he HAS a detailed plan. He just doesn’t vocalize it as often as he probably should. Take healthcare. As someone who works directly with how hospitals charge for things, I would love to see a change in the system. The biggest argument people bring up about Universal Single-payor Healthcare is “How are we going to pay for it?” People need to clearly understand the trade-off and what they’d be getting when their taxes ultimately go up. It’s unfortunate that we are so jaded because our taxes are often misused, misdirected, or just go missing. So we’re immediately skeptical of tax raises because we don’t think it will actually benefit us in the long run. Bernie has always been and will continue to be someone trying to make positive, people-focused change. I’m glad Trump gets under Bernie’s skin. America needs to be reminded that Trump’s behavior is NEITHER normal NOR acceptable. We need to start getting angry about it, we need to resist the slow normalization of this increasingly fascist regime. Trump getting under Bernie’s (or anyone’s) skin means that Bernie will put up a hell of a fight to keep our Democracy intact and have it work for ALL people.

Hi Charlotte! Fan from Iran here. Here's my opinion as Iranian. Gabbard seems like an amazing person really. But her strategy is to basically sign another deal with the Islamic Republic, shake their hands as legit politicians, and let them continue destabilizing the region. Im not saying israel or saudi are any better, those governments are butchers as well. But the currebt Iranian gov was put there by US in the 80s and day by day it's growing to be a global threat, not to mention the people dying in political prisons in Iran. As an Iranian I know for a fact that the only people who can remove them are those who installed the regime. Now i dont think Trump and Bolton have any good ideas for what Iran will become after the regime falls. But stabilizing Iran and making it a democratic country will be both an amazing idea for middle east and the west. Imo the only person who's willing to take action against these regimes without having casualties or starting a war is Mayor Pete! But sure Tulsi sounds like an amazing candidate as well

It seems like UBI would eventually cause jobs to hire less people and find other ways to produce, as well as cause some to take advantages of any loopholes. The sad thing is that no matter what is tried in a society it may be good for a hundred or so years, maybe thousands but will eventually become corrupt and the wheel just repeats itself. I don’t see any evidence to the contrary. Maybe in the short term it might work but not forever. For every solution another problem arises. Any I’m not being cynical, I’m just looking at how the past has repeated itself over and over again since civilizations have begun.

Yangs plan for UBI comes off as an out of touch Silicon Valley dweebs solution to the problems inherent within a capitalist society. I like Bernie the most because my man was speaking at pride rallies back in 86. In addition, Bernie plans to make healthcare and education a free right. Military recruiters are gonna have a rough time convincing poor kids to sign the prime of their life away if they don’t have to worry about paying for college and healthcare

the big question is that in the giving case Tulsi or Bernie win, will the whole US establishment allow them to carry such anti-war policies and programs to attend US citizens needs? because the big lobbies around the sanctions in my country (Venezuela) or the war with Iran or the big alliance with Israel to destroy Palestine pass by Congress, the pentagon, etc

I don't have the answers but I love that you've opened this talk. We need to make informed decisions moving forward. We need to stop repeating the same mistakes. I'd love to see Warren break through as a leader in the race. It will be 2020 and we need a smart woman to take the lead. It's long overdue.
