France officially has plans to tax the revenues of tech giants like Google, Amazon and Facebook. ⁠

The move directly defies a warning from President Trump's administration, who said the tax “unfairly targets American companies.”⁠ The 3% tax would apply to the French revenues of roughly 30 major companies, mostly from the U.S.⁠

On Wednesday, Trump ordered an investigation into the planned “digital tax.” Amazon “applauded” the Trump administration’s decision.⁠

“France is sovereign, and France decides its own tax rules. And this will continue to be the case,” France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said in a statement.⁠

For too long big corporations (who just happen to be mostly American; Google Apple Amazon etc) have been been earning billions out of other countries and they actively seek to get out of paying taxes in those countries. Do the right thing any pay your share.

palumbofrederic It's not a tax on American tech giants, it's a tax on tech giants. The fact that the three companies mentioned are headquartered in the United States makes no difference. These are multinationals who so far had successfully avoided paying corporate tax in countries where they earn revenue. This closes the loophole.
