I know about the depth of kindness and good in this heart. I see it manifest everyday. I see the humility, I see the integrity, I see the ceaseless generosity. I see the insatiable curiosity, and the constant search for evolution. I see the person always being cognizant of her impact on the world, and the person with the grace to know that she isn’t faultless and that she can grow. I see the daily struggle with her OCD and the daily triumphs. I see her put THAT reality into the world: fearlessly, selflessly, unfiltered, unedited, raw, real. Writing cheap headlines is easy. Living under a microscope is not. Breaking down complex thoughts around responsibility and impact and privilege into fit-your-own-narrative sound bites is lazy, faux activism. Looking at privilege is humbling work...especially when it calls into question how you make your bottom line. Almost all would prefer to take, and do take, the easy way out. Owning questions about gender, class, race and impact is not the easy way out. It is messy and hard and...necessary. My imperfect but ferocious warrior; never letting good enough be enough: that’s the truth of Amanda. I know, because I see it every day.
