Declawing is illegal in most of Europe, in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, and most recently, the entire state of New York. . . Since Bronson has a large reach, we felt it was important to help spread awareness about the issue and complications that can come from having the amputation performed. Cats need their claws for not only hunting and defending themselves, but also for healthy behaviors like climbing, stretching, and for leaving their scent. One of our goals with our cats is to help enrich their lives, so limiting them isn’t something we would want to do. I especially wouldn't dare limit Bronson's danger level in any way. . . It also seems to be a painful procedure that can cause medical issues like lameness, pain in the paw, death of surrounding tissue and infection. We make sure to keep plenty of scratchers and sisal poles around in our home and if we do catch our cats scratching furniture, we pick them up and place them on one of those. . . We saw that @citythekitty has a petition for helping raise awareness of the harmful issues related to declawing and to pressure vets to stop offering the procedure. . .
